Festivals
Harvest of freshwater prawn ponds occurs between September 1 and October 15 depending on the weather. Many association members will host harvest festivals. As the harvest dates are established they will be added to this webpage. Please check back for a list of upcoming festivals.
It is important to have multiple markets or multiple festivals to increase marketing opportunities and to increase marketing success. Having multiple markets or festivals will help producers avoid marketing problems due to weather or slow sales. Two regional festivals were held in addition to at least 10 harvest festivals by SFPGA members. The regional festivals held in Golconda, IL and at the DuQuoin Fairgrounds at the Fish and Shrimp Farming Expo hosted by the Illinois Fish Farmers Coop.
